NBSC NURTURES NATION-BUILDERS TO PROMOTE PEACE
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) successfully completed its Peace Education Forum titled, “Dialogue for Peace and Security: Addressing the West Philippine Sea, Advancing Peace Education, and Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict.” With the theme of Mapayapang Bukas Abot-Kamay sa Bagong Pilipinas, the event was held at the Student Welfare and Development Center (SWDC) Building Lobby on October 1, 2025. This is in line with CMO No. 1, Series of 2019, which mandates the integration of Peace Studies in the higher education curriculum, and as part of the culminating activities for the National Peace Consciousness Month.
Return Service System (RSS) 5 students were welcomed by Ms. Niemfa Love W. Manginsay, MA, Department of General Education Curricula (DGEC) Program Head, who emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of unity, cooperation, and a commitment to the common good.
In her message, Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, SUC President I, highlighted the importance of informed students in shaping a brighter future. She stressed that the youth are at the heart of building a better tomorrow and that it is essential for them to be aware of current issues and their implications.
The program continued with Mr. Alven L. Gomez, MSEST, Community Extension Services Division Designate Director, introducing the guest speaker, Lt. Col. Ricardo D. Navarrete, CE (GSC) PA, Assistant Chief of Staff for CMO, G7, 52nd Engineer Brigade.
Lt. Col. Navarrete addressed the audience, noting that awareness of the West Philippine Sea issue is an important part of patriotism. He pointed out that students can contribute in meaningful ways—through informed discussions, creative projects, or simple acts of civic responsibility—that help promote peace and security in their communities and beyond.
The forum was followed by a Q&A segment and an Awarding Ceremony for the top three winners of the Poster Making Contest.
In her closing message, Ms. Maria Michaela Q. Jamora, MS, Peace Education Focal Person, expressed gratitude to the participants and reminded the students of their shared responsibility in promoting peace. She concluded by reinforcing the idea that peace starts within, and each individual has the potential to influence positive change in society.
Through initiatives such as forums, community programs, and projects addressing national concerns, NBSC reaffirms its commitment to shaping informed, engaged, and responsible nation-builders dedicated to the country’s progress and stability.
