NBSC Futures Thinking: Successfully Bridging Tradition and Innovation in Phase 3 Program

Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon – Northern Bukidnon State College hosted Phase 3 of its groundbreaking Futures Thinking program at Dream Residence from September 13 to 15, 2023. Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Catherine Roween C. Almaden, the College President, Dr. Helen E. Maasin, the Vice President for Administration and Finance, and Dr. Jovelyn G. Delosa, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, this program brought together 40 school leaders dedicated to driving innovations in four vital commodities: bamboo, corn, coconut, and pineapple.

During this training, participants presented the outcomes of their diligent efforts stemming from the extensive field research conducted during Phase 2. Their endeavors were meticulously centered on the principles of backcasting, value creation, and moonshots, all of which shaped their research proposal presentations.

This program aimed to systematically explore and anticipate potential future scenarios, trends, and developments to make informed decisions and develop more resilient, adaptable, and forward-looking strategies.

The seminar was made possible with funding totaling two million pesos, generously provided by the Senate, under the guidance of Senator Pia Cayetano. The successful execution of the seminar was accomplished through a collaborative effort between Aptissimi Development Innovations Inc. and the Philippine Futures Thinking Society. Emmanuel De Guia, Representative of the Honorable Senator Pia Cayetano and Resident Futurist on the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking, was instrumental in ensuring the success of this event.

Furthermore, the seminar showcased distinguished resource speakers from Aptissimi Development Innovations Inc., notably featuring Ma. Christine F. Reyes and Jalaine Joyce Malabanan. Furthermore, the program derived immense value from the mentorship of Raul Roldan, Eric Aseo, Comm. Ruperto Sangalang, and Joel Abelinde, each of whom graciously imparted their wealth of expertise to the participants. Additionally, the invaluable support extended by staff members Imee Pagdanganan and Janina Reyes in collaboration with Mr. Reynan S. Salo, the focal person for NBSC’s Futures Thinking, greatly contributed to the program’s success.

The NBSC Futures Thinking Phase 3 Program marks an important milestone in the institution’s commitment to fostering innovation while preserving tradition. As we reflect on the success of this seminar, we look forward to the promising developments and transformative solutions that will emerge from the collective efforts of our dedicated school leaders.

Moving forward, the Northern Bukidnon State College remains steadfast in its pursuit of excellence, determined to shape a future that combines the heart of tradition with the mind of innovation.
