Program Focus:

  • Academic Development: The Guidance and Counseling Office empowers students with skills for lifelong learning through heutagogy, design thinking, and the 2F3C framework, fostering academic success and personal growth.

  • Personal Development: Guidance and counseling focus on fostering self-awareness, confidence, and resilience in students. They encourage ownership of personal growth, helping students navigate challenges and explore their passions. By providing support and opportunities for self-discovery, these efforts empower students to lead purposeful and fulfilling lives.

  • Psychosocial Development: Guidance and counseling help students develop interpersonal skills, emotional awareness, and social adaptability. By fostering emotional regulation and encouraging participation in social activities, these efforts create a supportive environment that nurtures resilience and well-being.

  • Career Development: Guidance and counseling help students assess career options based on their personality, interests, and abilities. By providing resources and support, these efforts empower students to explore pathways and make informed career decisions.

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING SERVICES

  • Information Services: Guidance counselors provide accurate and relevant information to support students’ academic, personal, and career growth. They ensure awareness of counseling services, share resources through various platforms, conduct orientations, document key discussions, and facilitate group counseling as needed.

  • Group Guidance: As part of Information Services, Group Guidance addresses student needs through structured sessions. Counselors assess needs, develop modules, follow experiential learning stages, coordinate schedules, and evaluate sessions for effectiveness.

  • Individual Inventory Services: Guidance counselors collect and securely store students’ personal, academic, and career-related records. These records help track progress, participation in guidance activities, and career planning. Confidentiality is maintained, with records updated as needed and securely disposed of five years after graduation.

  • Career Guidance Services: Guidance counselors support students in career exploration, planning, and decision-making through counseling, assessments, and career resources. They assist with course selection, job readiness, and industry insights while ensuring confidentiality in counseling sessions. Career plans and progress are documented, with follow-ups as needed.

  • Counseling Service: Counseling provides one-on-one or small group support to help students understand themselves, address concerns, and make informed decisions. It covers personal, academic, social, and career-related issues. Sessions ensure confidentiality, proper documentation, and follow-ups while offering distance counseling options when needed.

PROTOCOLS FOR SPECIAL CASES:

Structured protocols ensure effective support for students facing academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges. By following these guidelines, counselors provide tailored interventions, referrals, and assistance to promote student well-being and success.

⬇️ Handling Suicidal Ideation & Attempts:

For students experiencing suicidal thoughts or attempts, the guidance counselor shall:

  • Ensure the student is never left alone during the session
  • Assess for self-harm signs and escort to the clinic if needed
  • Provide immediate counseling and evaluate their situation.
  • Inform and involve the parent/guardian, Program Head, and relevant offices.
  • Contact the parent/guardian to pick up the student.
  • Update the parents/guardians on interventions and the action plan.
  • Complete the Endorsement-Custody Form and file it.
  • Refer to a mental health professional if necessary
  • Report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Program Head.

⬇️ Handling Suicide Cases

In response to a suicide case, the guidance counselor shall:

  • Identify affected students and provide immediate counseling.
  • Offer support to parents/relatives if requested.
  • Communicate transparently while respecting privacy.
  • Dispel misinformation and provide accurate information.
  • Ensure ongoing support through follow-ups, support groups, and mental health services

⬇️ Handling Cases of Child Abuse/Domestic Violence

In such cases, the guidance counselor shall:

  • Ensure the student is not left alone during the session.
  • Assess for signs of abuse and provide immediate medical attention if needed.
  • Offer counseling to evaluate the situation.
  • Encourage informing a trusted relative while notifying relevant school officials.
  • Contact the student’s closest relative and request their presence.
  • Discuss interventions and action plans with the relative.
  • Document the case properly using the Endorsement-Custody Form.
  • Refer the student to professional services if necessary.
  • Report the case to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Program Head.

⬇️ Handling Cases with Student Pregnancy

In such cases, the guidance counselor shall:

  • Ensure the student’s privacy while complying with mandatory reporting rules.
  • Provide a safe, non-judgmental space for discussion.
  • Assess the student’s needs and concerns.
  • Offer counseling and decision-making support, including assistance in informing parents if needed.
  • Provide information on prenatal care and available support services.
  • Refer the student to medical and support offices, such as the school clinic and Gender and Development Office.
  • Develop an academic plan with program heads and instructors, ensuring flexibility and emotional support.
  • Conduct follow-ups to assess progress and adjust interventions.

⬇️ Handling Cases with Unfortunate Calamities

In such cases, the guidance counselor shall:

  • Collaborate with support programs and local government to assess available aid.
  • Provide counseling services to directly affected students.
  • Work with other school offices to deliver psychological first aid in large-scale disasters.
  • Monitor students’ well-being through follow-ups and adjust support as needed.
