General Description of the Functions of the Office

The Research Ethics Office (REO) is an office under the Office of the College President. It is a vital administrative component of the Research Ethics Committee (REC), tasked with budgeting and financial management. It is committed to ensuring that all research, both within and outside theĀ institution, adheres to ethical standards by submitting protocols for REC review, ensuring complianceĀ with relevant data collection requirements and permits, and facilitating training and capacityĀ building for REC members and researchers. Furthermore, the REO manages the daily administrativeĀ operations related to the REC and offers support and guidance to researchers throughout the ethicalĀ review process.

Objectives

The Research Ethics Office (REO), promotes ethical research by providing ongoing education
and training, reviewing research involving human participants, and offering clear guidelines and resources. It supports informed consent, addresses ethical issues, raises awareness, evaluates its procedures, and collaborates with stakeholders to uphold research ethics within the institution.

1. Ethics Consultation: Providing expert advice on ethical issues throughout the research process.
2.Ā Resource Development: Creating and distributing templates, guidelines, and checklists to assist researchers in ethical compliance.
3. Informed Consent Support: Assisting researchers in developing effective informed consentĀ documents and processes.
4. Monitoring and Compliance Checks: Monitor ongoing research regularly to ensureĀ adherence to ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
5. Ethical Issue Resolution: Facilitating the resolution of ethical dilemmas and concernsĀ raised by researchers or participants.
6. Public Awareness Initiatives: Engaging with the community to promote understanding ofĀ research ethics and its importance.
7. Feedback Mechanisms: Implementing systems for collecting feedback on REO services and policies to drive continuous improvement.
8. Collaboration Support: Helping researchers connect with external organizations and experts for enhanced ethical research practices.
9. Issuance of Data Gathering Permits: Provide permits for collecting data in research projects and ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
