NBSC CONDUCTS FIRE SAFETY ORIENTATION AND DRILL
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) conducted a Fire Safety Orientation and Fire Drill in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on March 18, 2026, at the Student Welfare and Development Center, 1st Floor Lobby. Initiated by the General Services Office (GSO) / Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (DRRMU), the activity gathered students and personnel for practical guidance on fire prevention, emergency response, and basic safety practices.
Benzar Glen S. Grepon, MIT, Supervising Administrative Officer (SAO), delivered the opening message on behalf of NBSC President Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, Ed.D., CESE, highlighting the importance of readiness and awareness on campus. He emphasized that safety is a shared responsibility.
The lecture proper was facilitated by Fire Officer (FO) II Sheen Gabriel A. Waban, FO II Junveve T. Lopena, and FO I Sairah Ville L. Sante. The session covered the three elements of fire, common household causes of fire, the proper use of fire extinguishers through the TPASS method, stages of fire, classifications of fire, methods of heat transfer, and safety tips.
A live demonstration followed, focusing on managing a household fire caused by a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank using wet towel techniques. Selected volunteers performed the procedure, giving participants a hands-on understanding of the steps and precautions involved.
Closing remarks were delivered by Fritchar H. Gevero, MA, Head of GSO, who reflected on the significance of the training and encouraged attendees to incorporate the lessons into daily practices.
Through the integration of lecture and hands-on demonstration, participants gained practical knowledge of fire safety and emergency response. The activity reinforced awareness of everyday risks and highlighted simple yet effective practices that contribute to a safer campus environment.
Such initiatives underscore NBSC’s continued commitment to disaster preparedness, safety awareness, and the protection of its academic community.
