NBSC GAD STUDENT ORIENTATION HIGHLIGHTS STUDENT PROTECTION UNDER RA 11313
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC), through the Gender and Development Office (GADO), continued its student orientation on September 22, 2026, with a discussion on Republic Act No. 11313 (R.A. 11313), also known as the Safe Spaces Act or the “Bawal Bastos Law.” The session was conducted online via Zoom and Facebook Live through the official Facebook page of the NBSC Student Affairs, Services, and Development Division (SASDD). The activity was held under the theme, “GAD Talks: Empowering Students for a Safe and Inclusive Campus.”
Mr. John Kevin A. Artuz, MS, JD, Vice President for Administration and Finance, served as the resource speaker for the second day of the orientation. He discussed R.A. 11313 through real-life examples, covering the importance of the law, its key provisions, the different forms of harassment, the settings where the law applies, the three pillars of protection, and other matters related to the law.
Mr. Artuz emphasized the importance of being mindful of one’s words and actions, particularly in online spaces. “Be mindful of your comments, even what you post online,” he reminded the participants as he presented examples of online harassment cases.
The session also included a question-and-answer portion, allowing participants to raise their concerns and clarify their understanding of the law.
Through the orientation, GADO continues to equip students with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities under the Safe Spaces Act while promoting greater awareness of respectful and inclusive behavior both within and beyond the campus.
