NBSC FAMILY DAY 2026: VALUING THE FAMILY AS THE BASIC UNIT OF SOCIETY
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) celebrated Family Day on October 1, 2026, with the theme “Colorful Day at NBSC.” The activity brought together the NBSC community and their families at the College Covered Court for a day of fun and family bonding.
The celebration was also part of the College’s observance of National Family Week, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 60, series of 1992, which designates the last week of September as National Family Week.
The program started with a parade and the introduction of families and guests. Miss Honey Jane S. Nasara, Gender and Development Focal Person, delivered the opening remarks and highlighted the importance of strengthening the unity, solidarity, and stability of Filipino families.
In her message, NBSC College President Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, shared three stories that focused on the time, love, and patience that families give to one another.
In the first story, Dr. Ganiera reminded everyone about the importance of spending time with family.
“We work hard because we love our families. Yet while providing for them, we can sometimes forget how much they also need our time and our attention,” she said.
In the second story, she talked about caring for parents not only through providing for their needs but also through spending time with them.
“We may call or send money to provide for our parents’ needs, and those are caring things to do, but perhaps they also long to sit with us, tell their stories, and hear about our day,” she said.
For the third story, Dr. Ganiera reminded everyone of the importance of patience and understanding within the family.
“As children, we need someone to answer our many questions, listen to our stories, and guide us patiently. As our parents grow older, may we offer them the same kindness. We do not have to be perfect parents, children, or families. We can begin by making time, listening well, and showing our love in small, everyday ways,” she shared.
She encouraged the NBSC community to practice these simple acts of love and care in their own families.
The celebration continued with surprise guests, family parlor games, and games for children. Families also enjoyed the photo booth, where they could take photos as keepsakes of the activity. A magic show, stand-up comedy, bubble play, and photoshoot added more excitement to the celebration, especially for the children. The activity culminated with a story-filled same-day-edit video, capturing the fun and memorable moments shared by the NBSC community and their families.
Through the activity, NBSC highlighted the importance of family as the basic unit of society. More than a day of games and entertainment, Family Day provided an opportunity for personnel, students, and their families to spend time together and strengthen their relationships. It also brought the NBSC community closer as one family.
