NBSC Researchers Engage in DOST-PCAARRD’s Regional Information Caravan and Proposal Writeshop
Last February 15-16, 2024, a team offive (5) researchers from Northern Bukidnon State College participated in the Coconut Hybridization Program (CHP): Regional Information Caravan and Proposal Writeshop organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resource Research and Development’s (DOST-PCAARRD) at VIP Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
This program, part of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) funded by Republic Act No. 11524, aims to boost farm productivity, increase farmers’ income, and enhance the Philippine coconut industry’s sustainability. The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) oversees the implementation of CFIDP programs, with a particular focus on the CHP, which receives a 5% annual budget allocation.
Ms. Mary Koren Witting-Acuesa, Ms. Ma. Cassandra R. Tubongbanua, Ms. Phoebe Ruth B. Alithea Sudaria, Ms. Ma. Jeneza C. Guitarte, and Mr. Daniel C. Cabanas were among the attendees who worked on a proposal on the agenda under policy recommendation on the participation of the private sector in the production of hybrid coconut planting materials in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority.
The CHP Research Component of the DOST-PCAARRD aims to attain the following R&D targets: (1) improve the production of hybrid coconut planting materials; (2) improve the quality of planting materials and develop new hybrids; (3) establish regional hybrid demo farms; and (4) increase the income of coconut farming communities.
