NBSC Joins PNVSCA’s Growing Network of Volunteerism Advocates in Higher Education
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) has become the latest higher education institution to partner with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) in a joint commitment to integrate the spirit of volunteerism into academic life. This partnership was announced on August 8, 2025, at the NBSC Learning Resource Center.
Through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by NBSC President Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, EdD, CESE, and PNVSCA Executive Director Donald James D. Gawe, CESO III, the collaboration seeks to institutionalize volunteerism across NBSC’s academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement activities.
The partnership is anchored on Republic Act No. 9418, or the Volunteer Act of 2007, which calls for the integration of volunteerism into the basic and higher education curriculum to foster civic responsibility and bayanihan among Filipinos.
Under the agreement, NBSC will establish a Volunteerism Office to coordinate and monitor volunteer programs, engage faculty, staff, students, and alumni in service initiatives, conduct research on volunteerism, and collaborate with PNVSCA in creating a comprehensive volunteerism database. The college will also assist in local governance capacity-building and co-organize technical assistance and training activities for partner sectors.
PNVSCA, in turn, will provide technical assistance, advocacy materials, and linkages with International Volunteer Service Organizations (IVSOs) and Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs) to strengthen NBSC’s volunteer initiatives.
The agreement also affirms the partners’ shared commitment to gender equality, data privacy, and inclusive volunteer opportunities. Spanning three years, the MOA is expected to serve as a model for other state colleges and universities in promoting volunteerism as a way of life.
