NBSC Students Chart Identity in “Project PANATAG” Art Workshop
Following a formal partnership agreement signed earlier in the day, twenty select students from Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) participated in an intensive art workshop on August 27, 2025, as part of “Project PANATAG: Subjective Mapping of the Philippines.” Held at the NBSC Student Welfare and Development Center (SWDC), the event guided students through a creative process of exploring and documenting their personal connections to place, memory, and identity.
The workshop, a collaboration with the Philippine Women’s University (PWU), introduced students to subjective mapping – an artistic research method prioritizing lived experiences over traditional cartography. A team of facilitators led the hands-on activities, including Project PANATAG Director Ms. Josephine Turalba and her PWU colleagues Ms. Teresita Mellany Aquino, Ms. Alynnah Macla Tadeo, Ms. Dominique Arcenas, Ms. Ari Turalba, and Ms. Jeanne Leanne Diquit. Joining them was Mr. Louie Talents, an award-winning contemporary artist known for exploring memory and travel in his work, who also serves as NBSC’s artist-consultant for its Cultural and Creative Innovation Hub.
In her message during the workshop’s opening, Ms. Turalba encouraged students to embrace their unique perspectives, emphasizing that their personal stories were the core of the project and would contribute to a richer, more intimate understanding of the contemporary Filipino experience.
Organized by NBSC’s Research, Development, and Innovation Division (RDID), the workshop fostered an environment of dialogue and collaborative creation. The event not only empowered students to translate their stories into visual art but also introduced new, community-centered methods of inquiry to the college, enriching its approach to knowledge creation. The students’ work will become part of a nationwide tapestry of stories gathered by Project PANATAG, ultimately contributing to the creation of the Subjective Atlas of the Philippines.
