The first NBCC courses started with the extension program of the Bukidnon State College, now the prestigious Bukidnon State University, Malaybalay City. Courses were also opened by another higher-level institution, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City. The term to open up their baccalaureate courses at NBCC lasted for only three consecutive school years (AY 2002-2003, AY 2003-2004, and AY 2004-2005) because of Municipal Ordinance No. 368-2005.
NBCC’s Municipal Ordinance No. 368-2005, dated March 2, 2005, authorized NBCC to formally start the opening of classes in AY 2005-2006. The Teacher Education Program (TEP), alongside the Business Administration Program, was the first to offer its services to clients. CHED has recognized the initial course offerings in the program, namely: Bachelor of Elementary Education-General Curriculum; Bachelor of Secondary Education with majors in English and Mathematics. In its first semester of operation, AY 2005-2006, the college had a total enrollment of 143 students: The Teacher Education Program had 45 enrollees, whereas the BSBA department had 98.
Commitment and excellence served as guiding principles in the pioneering stage of building this department. These principles underpin the establishment of three programs, namely, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Elementary Education, and Bachelor of Secondary Education. Over the years, TEP has been committed to a generalist orientation in the teaching and supervision of generalized knowledge and a specialized orientation slanted towards passing the board examination. The dedication and excellence that this department is known for show what real education is all about and how important it is to believe in your dreams. Today, the Teacher Education program remains as Northern Bukidnon State College’s banner program.
