NBSC Advances Sustainability through Strategic Planning Workshop for ESWMP
NBSC, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon—As part of its continued commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable campus operations, Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) successfully conducted a consultation, review, and strategic planning for the enhancement of its proposed Ecological Solid Waste Management Plan (ESWMP) on May 23, 2025.
The activity convened key stakeholders from within the institution and the wider community, including student leaders, faculty and staff representatives, and an expert from a civil society organization. The event was further enriched by the insights of Ma’am Ira Beau L. Baconguis, an esteemed professional in the field of environmental campaigns, permaculture, and earthbuilding, who served as the consultant for the crafted institutional ESWM plan.
The activity featured a thorough review of the proposed ESWMP, identification of current gaps and operational challenges, and the development of strategies and targets. These include improved waste reduction initiatives, segregation practices, enhanced waste diversion systems, and strengthened awareness campaigns across the campus and surrounding communities.
The development of the College ESWMP and the conduct of the Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) were led by the CESD Director, Mr. Alven L. Gomez, and faculty members Mr. Melven I. Valmoria and Ms. Leah Mae S. Cuyno, in close collaboration with the General Services Unit Head, Mr. Fritchar Gevero. The ESWMP will serve as NBSC’s roadmap in promoting ecological integrity, institutional accountability, and community engagement in line with national solid waste management frameworks.
