NBSC Champions Empathy in Leadership at TLA Formation Workshop
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) conducted the third cycle of the Transformational Leaders Academy (TLA) Formation Workshop with the theme “Emotionally Intelligent Leader: Leading with the Heart” on September 15–16, 2025, at Dreams Golftel and Residences.
The TLA is an institutional leadership development program unique to NBSC, designed to equip leaders to embody the College’s Vision, Mission, Goals, and Core Values while fostering personal growth. Each cycle builds on a leadership dimension: the first cycle focused on knowing the self as a leader, the second cycle on organizational citizenship, and this third cycle on emotional intelligence. The session was facilitated by Miss Teresita “Yeyette” Albert, an expert on Emotional Intelligence.
NBSC President Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, Ed.D., CESE, opened the activity with an inspiring audio message, reminding participants to lead with empathy and sharing personal experiences in her journey as an empathetic leader. She left the leaders with her guiding mantra: “May you be well, may you be happy, may you be loved, may you be at peace.”
Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jovelyn G. Delosa, explained the rationale of the initiative, echoing President Ganiera’s message that leadership development is a collective investment. “We are investing in three things: Time, Resources, and Presence. Because we are the pillars of NBSC,” she emphasized. Quoting St. Augustine, she also reminded participants that empathy, adaptability, and influence must be anchored in humility.
A highlight of the workshop was the group presentations, where leaders showcased their creativity and insights through reflections on three parts: (1) Learning Highlights, (2) Areas for Further Learning, and (3) Aspirations as Leaders. Their presentations impressed the facilitator, who remarked, “I’m overwhelmed.”
The second day concluded with a moving moment as each participant publicly declared and pledged their personal leadership commitment before President Ganiera, as they continue to serve NBSC.
The success of this cycle was made possible through the strong support of President Ganiera, under the CASTLE (Creating a culture for the Advancement of the Art and Science of Transformative Teaching and Learning) Initiative.
Through the TLA Formation Workshop, NBSC reaffirms its commitment to shaping empathetic, resilient, and visionary leaders who will inspire positive change within the institution and the wider community.
