ADVANCING SUSTAINABLE TOURISM: NBSC FACULTY REPRESENTS COLLEGE AT ISSAAS 2026
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) continues to strengthen its commitment to research excellence and global academic engagement as one of its faculty researchers participated in the ISSAAS National Scientific Congress 2026 and the International Forum on Agritourism and Climate Resilience 2026, held on April 27–30, 2026, in Basco, Batanes.
The prestigious gathering, organized by the International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences (ISSAAS), Philippines and hosted by Batanes State College, brought together researchers, educators, policymakers, and industry practitioners from across the country and beyond. The event served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of innovative ideas, cutting-edge research, and collaborative initiatives focused on sustainable agriculture, agritourism, and climate resilience.
Representing NBSC, Mr. Melven I. Valmoria, a faculty member from the Department of General Education Curricula, presented a research paper that contributes to the growing body of knowledge in the field of Sustainable Tourism, Policy, and Governance, highlighting the institution’s ongoing efforts in advancing research-driven solutions to contemporary challenges. The presentation not only showcased academic rigor but also reflected the institution’s dedication to community-responsive and impact-oriented research.
The congress and forum emphasized the critical role of agritourism as a sustainable development strategy, particularly in rural and geographically unique areas such as Batanes. Discussions also centered on climate resilience, underscoring the urgent need for adaptive strategies and innovative practices to address the impacts of climate change on agriculture and local communities.
Beyond the formal sessions, the event provided valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration with fellow researchers and experts. It also allowed participants to experience firsthand the unique cultural heritage and breathtaking natural landscapes of Batanes – an embodiment of the very themes discussed during the forum, where environmental stewardship and sustainable living are deeply rooted in local practices.
Participation in this international academic gathering marks another milestone for NBSC as it continues to expand its research footprint and foster global linkages. The insights gained from the congress are expected to further enrich the institution’s academic programs, extension services, and future research endeavors.
NBSC extends its gratitude to the organizers, partner institutions, and stakeholders for facilitating a meaningful and impactful event. The college also reaffirms its commitment to supporting faculty researchers in pursuing opportunities that contribute to knowledge generation, innovation, and sustainable development.
