MORE THAN A COMPETITION: NBSC INTRAMURALS OPENS WITH A CALL TO STAND AS ONE
The NBSC Intramurals 2026 is one of the most anticipated events in the life of the College, bringing students together in friendly competition across different teams. As Northern Bukidnon State College kicked off its Intramurals on October 5, 2026, College President Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, reminded the NBSC community that the bigger challenge is learning to compete while remaining one community.
Anchored on the theme “Play with Passion, Compete with Pride, Stand as One,” the opening day gave students an opportunity to showcase their talents, beginning with the Bench-Cheering Competition. The Institutes for Computer Studies, Teacher Education, and Business Management delivered performances that set the tone for the celebration. More than showcasing their talents, the activity gave students an opportunity to build friendships, enjoy the competition, and strengthen their sense of belonging to the NBSC family.
Dr. Ganiera stressed that while teams may compete against one another, the community remains one NBSC.
She also acknowledged the people who worked behind the scenes to make the event possible: the student leaders headed by Norman Tuto, the organizing committee, facilitators and game officials, volunteers, faculty and coaches, support personnel, Sports Development Office Head Grace Quiblat, and Event Management Office Head Mx. Gerard Beduya.
Balancing their academic and professional responsibilities while preparing for an event of this scale, the organizers worked alongside students who showed up and participated despite the limited time for practice and preparation.
For Dr. Ganiera, the real challenge also lies in how the community responds to pressure, limitations, and differences in expectations.
She therefore urged the entire NBSC community to be fair in judgment, appreciate the work behind the event, raise concerns constructively, listen to one another, and work together to improve future arrangements.
Dr. Ganiera also connected the theme to the conduct expected from the participants. To “Play with Passion” means giving one’s best with discipline and determination. To “Compete with Pride” means playing fairly, respecting officials and opponents, and showing humility in victory and grace in defeat. And to “Stand as One” is to remember that competition does not erase the fact that everyone belongs to one NBSC community.
Her message also extended to the spectators, whom she challenged to think about how they cheer, with enthusiasm, but also with respect. She reminded them to preserve the dignity of participants, avoid behavior that diminishes others, and recognize that every team remains part of NBSC.
With this, she appealed to everyone to look after one another, observe safety guidelines, and help make the celebration enjoyable for all.
Ultimately, the measure of the Intramurals should not only be who wins the most medals, but what kind of community NBSC becomes through the experience.
Dr. Ganiera then declared the Intramurals officially open: “With joy and confidence in your sportsmanship, I now declare the Northern Bukidnon State College Intramurals 2026 officially open. Play with Passion, Compete with Pride, Stand as One. Mabuhay tayong lahat, and let the competition begin!”
