NBSC Presents Research Results at the 22nd Science Council of Asia Conference in Seoul, South Korea
The 22nd Science Council of Asia (SCA) Conference, hosted in Hoam Faculty House, Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea, recently concluded its proceedings, bringing together a diverse array of scientists, researchers, and experts from across the globe. The conference, held from October 19-21, 2023, revolved around the theme “Science for Sustainability, Resilience, and Human Well-being.” Founded in 2000 by Asian science academies and national scientific organizations, the SCA is a prestigious international scientific organization with a focus on fostering collaboration across various domains, including cultural and social sciences, natural sciences, and technology. The overarching goal of the SCA is to promote sustainable development, enhance the quality of life, and address the urgent issues concerning sustainability in Asia and worldwide.
This year’s conference commenced with an impactful keynote address by Ban Ki-moon, the 8th UN Secretary-General and President of the Ban Ki-moon Foundation for a Better Future. His address emphasized the concept of global citizenship, compassion, and the pressing need for immediate action in the face of the mounting climate crisis. Throughout the conference, renowned speakers shared their insights on a range of critical topics, delving into advances in science, technology, and innovation, exploring culturally independent perspectives on technological change, and examining the vital role of tropical forests in climate mitigation and the preservation of biodiversity. Dr. Yoo Youngsook, former Minister of Environment, Korea, also presented South Korea’s ambitious Carbon Neutrality Plan, underlining the importance of science-based strategies in achieving a sustainable and resilient society.
The Philippine delegation included researchers from Northern Bukidnon State College: the College President, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and two project leaders, namely Dr. Catherine Roween C. Almaden, Dr. Jovelyn G. Delosa, Dr. Mary Koren Witting-Acuesa, and Mr. Rolan L. Mancha. They showcased institutional research findings through poster presentations. Furthermore, Dr. Catherine Roween C. Almaden was among the speakers in the special session on Regional Carbon Neutrality Plans and Climate Resilience in Asia, alongside fellow experts and scientists from Japan, India, Korea, and Sri Lanka. The SCA Conference 2023 served as a dynamic platform for the dissemination of research, global networking, and inspirational dialogues on critical global challenges. It brought together scholars and professionals, providing them with an opportunity to collaborate, exchange ideas, and contribute to the betterment of human well-being and the environment.
