NBSC and DLSU Conclude Landmark Research Publishing Workshop, Bolstering Regional Scholarly Output
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC), in collaboration with De La Salle University (DLSU), successfully hosted a two-day workshop titled Enhancing Research Outputs: A Capacity-Building Workshop on Publishing Research on June 9 to10, 2025. The event gathered faculty, staff, and students from NBSC and partner institutions, aiming to raise the quality and quantity of scholarly publications in the region.
Held at the NBSC Student Welfare Development Center, the workshop coincided with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), formalizing the partnership between NBSC and DLSU. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to institutional research growth and faculty development.
Three esteemed DLSU experts led the sessions:
Dr. Homer J. Yabut, Director of the Social Development Research Center (SDRC), opened with a session on the “Characteristics of High-Impact Academic Articles,” using a conversational metaphor to simplify scholarly writing and positioning.
Dr. Marites M. Tiongco, Professor of Economics and NAST Outstanding Scientific Paper Awardee, shared strategies on crafting publishable articles and navigating the challenges of academic publishing.
Dr. Jerome V. Cleofas, Chair of Sociology and Behavioral Sciences and 2024 NAST Outstanding Young Scientist, covered the full publication pipelineโfrom journal targeting and peer review to manuscript editing. His sessions highlighted the IMRAD format and journal-specific style.
The first day focused on theory and peer review simulations. The second day offered hands-on manuscript workshopping and direct consultation with the DLSU experts, culminating in presentations of revised research outputs.
The event closed with NBSC leadership expressing deep appreciation for DLSUโs support. The workshop not only enhanced local research capabilities but also marked a significant milestone for NBSCโs Research, Development, and Innovation Division (RDID). It sets the stage for a stronger research culture and greater scholarly productivity in Northern Mindanao.
