NBSC spearheads PES Mindanao Forum 2022

Manolo Fortich Bukidnon – Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) spearheads the Philippine Economics Society (PES) Mindanao Forum 2022 on October 4, 2022 bearing the theme “Recovering Growth: Rebuilding the Mindanao Post – Pandemic Economy”. The event is in partnership with Ateneo de Manila University – Department of Economics, Ateneo de Davao University – Department of Economics, Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan – Economics Department, and Father Saturnino Urios University – College of Arts and Sciences.

NBSC President and PES Regional Representative for Mindanao, Dr. Catherine Roween C. Almaden and NBSC Research and Extension Director, Ms. Caroline Laarni R. Sereñas were among the core organizers of this year’s Mindanao Forum. 

PES President, Dr. Charlotte Justine Diokno – Sicat shared the importance of the event which will guide the academe, the local government, civil society organizations, and private sector on how they can contribute to inclusive economic growth and development.

The speakers during the event included Dr. Adrian M. Tamayo, Division Chief of Mindanao Development Authority, Ms. Diana Carmella T. Labra, Director of Ateneo Migration Center – Ateneo de Davao University, Mr. Joseph El Roy B. Cassion II, Assistant Professor of Father Saturnino Urios University, and Mr. Raymundo G. Talimio, Jr., CPA, MBM, President of Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. 

The topics discussed focused on the potentials, opportunities and challenges, and trends in Mindanao Regions. Research projects – Employment Impact due to COVID-19 Lockdowns: Case of Cagayan de Oro City, Impact of Pandemic to Cooperatives by Ateneo de Davao Employees Multipurpose Cooperative, and Sison, Surigao del Norte CSIS Survey: COVID-19 Response – were also individually discussed by the keynote speakers.

The forum was conducted via Zoom and was streamed live on the NBSC official Facebook page.
