NBSC STRENGTHENS ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE THROUGH PCO TRAINING PARTICIPATION
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) reaffirmed its commitment to responsible environmental management as Jaygreth L. Sambalod, MPSM, Ecological Solid Waste Management (EWSM) Unit Coordinator, completed the 40-Hour Basic Training Course for Pollution Control Officers (PCOs) on February 10-13, 2026, at the El Grande Residencia Hotel and Resort, Brgy. San Carlos, Lipa City, Batangas. The training was facilitated by JP Environment Consultancy Services (JPECS), a DENR-EMB-recognized institution authorized to conduct the program for appointed and designated PCOs.
The course forms part of the requirements under Sections 6 and 7 of DENR Administrative Order (DAO) 2014-02, or the Revised Guidelines for PCO Accreditation. Since its implementation, the policy has required newly appointed PCOs to undergo formal training and secure accreditation, with renewal mandated every three years. The program revisited key environmental laws, compliance procedures, monitoring responsibilities, and reporting standards that institutions must observe in their day-to-day operations.
Over four days, participants engaged in discussions that connected policy with practice, translating legal provisions into workable systems for waste management, environmental monitoring, and regulatory documentation. The training underscored the importance of proactive oversight, not only to meet statutory obligations, but to cultivate sound environmental practices within organizations.
With strengthened technical grounding and updated regulatory insight, NBSC is better positioned to refine its internal processes and guide its community toward more mindful environmental conduct. Efforts anchored on competence and accountability quietly shape a campus environment that values sustainability as part of its everyday operations.
