SETTING THE SEMESTER IN MOTION: NBSC OPENS KICKOFF WEEK FOR SECOND SEMESTER
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) formally opened the Kickoff Week Program for the Second Semester of School Year 2025–2026 on January 19, 2026, marking the official start of academic and student-related activities for the term. The opening activity gathered students, faculty, and administrators in a shared commitment to begin the semester with purpose and engagement.
The program started with a homily by Rev. Father Jomar Tolomia that addressed the differences between present-day learners and previous generations. It emphasized that practices which are no longer effective should be reassessed, citing examples of organizations that failed after resisting necessary change. The message focused on staying relevant and responsive to current realities.
Following the preliminaries, NBSC President Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, SUC President I, delivered the Welcome Message and Hour with the President. She reiterated the institution’s core values represented by RAISE—Responsibility, Adaptability, Inclusitivity, Sustainability, and Excellence—and explained how these values apply to students’ daily experiences. She referenced the 1992 Barcelona Olympics race of Derek Redmond to illustrate accountability, perseverance, and the importance of support. She also reminded students that “every choice you make… either strengthens or weakens the values you claim to live. Character is built long before the moment we are tested.”
The program continued with an intermission performance by the Sidlak Banog Dance Troupe. Ms. Rowena E. Bagongon, MA, then presented the orientation for the Kickoff Week activities, which included general assemblies, program-specific orientations, student organization booth displays, a Clean Up Drive in observance of Zero Waste Month, and scheduled class orientations. She encouraged students to participate actively and take ownership of school activities: “This is your school. These are your events. Make them count.”
Mr. Gerard Peter O. Beduya led the presentation by NBSC officials and faculty, an energetic dance to show their eagerness for the semester. Closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Jovelyn Delosa, who emphasized the shared responsibility between the institution and its students.
The Opening Activity concluded with a Unity Dance led by the dance troupe, and the students’ expression of gratitude to Dr. Ganiera (“Among pagtimbaya ug pasalamat gikan sa mga estudyante sa Northern Bukidnon State College…”).
More than a ceremonial opening, the Kickoff Week Opening Activity set the tone for the semester, strengthened community engagement, and reinforced NBSC’s continuing commitment to academic excellence and vibrant student life.
