NBSC-ITE SHOWCASES RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AT SUCTEA VI CONFERENCE
Northern Bukidnon State College’s Institute for Teacher Education (NBSC-ITE) demonstrated its commitment to research excellence and educational innovation during the 6th State Universities and Colleges Teacher Education Association (SUCTEA) Research Conference held on May 25-27, 2026, at Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City, Philippines.
Gathering teacher educators, researchers, and academic leaders from across the country, the conference served as a platform for presenting scholarly works that contribute to the advancement of teacher education and educational practice. NBSC-ITE contributed two research presentations under the Education strand, highlighting evidence-based approaches to strengthening teacher preparation and assessment practices.
Dr. Christine C. Royo, Program Head of ITE, presented her study entitled “Bridging the Gap Between Teacher Education and Basic Education: An Evaluation of MATATAG Curriculum Alignment.” The research examined the extent to which teacher education programs align with the demands and realities of classroom instruction under the MATATAG Curriculum, the Department of Education’s (DepEd) revised K to 10 basic education frameworks. Findings emphasized the need to strengthen school-college partnerships, integrate subject-specific pedagogical approaches into methods courses, and establish structured induction and mentoring initiatives for pre-service and beginning teachers.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dulce Amor S. Loquias, faculty researcher, presented her study titled “The Use of Learning-Oriented Assessment in a State College in Mindanao.” The research highlighted the positive impact of formative assessment strategies, including timely feedback, peer assessment, and self-assessment, in enhancing student engagement, promoting transparency, and improving learning outcomes. The study further recommended targeted professional development initiatives and stronger institutional support to encourage the wider adoption of learning-oriented assessment practices in higher education institutions.
The active participation of the ITE in the SUCTEA VI Research Conference reflects NBSC’s continuing pursuit of academic excellence, research productivity, and evidence-informed educational reforms. Through these scholarly contributions, the College reinforces its vital role in enhancing teacher preparation, improving classroom readiness, and fostering quality learning experiences that respond to the evolving needs of Philippine education.
