NBSC Hosts PES Mindanao Forum 2023

Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon – The Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) hosted the PES Mindanao Forum 2023 on August 9, 2023, through an online conference. The event, with the theme “Revitalizing the Mindanao Regions: A Path to Economic Prosperity and Inclusion,” was organized in collaboration with the Philippine Economic Society (PES). The online webinar aimed to foster insightful discussions and innovative solutions for the economic growth and inclusivity of Mindanao. Relevant issues pertaining to the development and progress of the region were further discussed.

The forum saw the participation of various higher education institutions, government agencies, private organizations, and esteemed guests, including PES officials and CHED Commissioner Hon. Jo Mark M. Libre, PhD, who delivered the opening address.

 Distinguished speakers during the event were Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, PES President; Dir. Myla Faye Aurora Cariño, CESO III, Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for Northern Mindanao; Dr. Adoracion Navarro, Senior Fellow of the Philippine Institute for Developmental Studies (PIDS); and Dr. Karl Robert L. Jandoc, Department Chair of the University of the Philippines (UP) School of Economics.

The webinar encompassed a range of topics including The Philippine Economic Outlook, The Northern Mindanao Economic Outlook, Road and Railway Infrastructure in Mindanao: Status, Challenges, and Prospects, and The Eco-Development Nexus: The Link between Green Growth and Regional Development. An open forum was also done to address important concerns raised by the participants.

As the webinar came to an end, Dr. Catherine Roween C. Almaden, NBSC President and PES Regional Representative for Mindanao, expressed gratitude to all the speakers, organizers from PES and NBSC, and participants of this year’s Mindanao Forum.

With the PES Mindanao Forum 2023 as an inspiring example, the journey towards sustainable economic progress and inclusive development in Mindanao remains an ongoing endeavor, one that requires the continued engagement and dedication of all stakeholders.
