NBSC LAUNCHES PIONEERING PROGRAM “MATH SA BUKID”
The Bachelor of Secondary Education–Mathematics Program of Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) has launched its pioneering extension project, “Math sa Bukid: Contextualized Mathematics Videos for Mathematical Literacy and Learners’ Experiences in Isolated Schools”.
As part of this initiative, a seminar-workshop titled “Design, Development, and Evaluation of Contextualized Learning Videos for Mathematics” was held on March 18–19, 2026, at the E-Library inside the Learning Resource Center (LRC). The activity was anchored on the results of a needs analysis conducted in November 2025 in two isolated high school areas in Manolo Fortich, which identified the need for contextualized video-based learning resources.
Nathalie Joy G. Casildo, MIT, Assistant Professor II at Central Mindanao University (CMU), served as resource speaker and mentor, guiding the third-year BSEd-Mathematics students in developing their video production and editing skills. Through her mentorship, the participants successfully produced 18 contextualized instructional videos for Mathematics 7.
Dr. Jovelyn G. Delosa was also present during the activity and provided valuable insights and feedback, further enriching the learning experience.
The project was led by Dr. Jonel C. Murillo, together with his team composed of Charry Mae C. Grepon, MA; Dr. Mary Cris J. Go; Dr. Christine C. Royo; Noraisah U. Radaza, MA; Ramer N. Verdejo, MS; John Mark Liwat, MS; Wendel Glenn Jumalon, MS; and Cedric S. Cubacub, MA.
The team also expressed gratitude to College President Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, Ed.D., CESE, and Community Extension and Services Division (CESD) Director Alven L. Gomez, MSEST, for their continued support.
The launch of “Math sa Bukid” highlights NBSC’s commitment to extending quality and inclusive education to underserved communities. By equipping pre-service teachers with the skills to create contextualized learning materials, the initiative not only enhances their professional competence but also addresses the unique learning needs of students in geographically isolated areas. As the project moves forward, it stands as a meaningful step toward improving mathematical literacy and enriching learners’ educational experiences in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).
